Venice in the Rain

The day started out cold but dry as we pulled into port in Venice. It was a pretty scene to come in from the water that way. We took a water shuttle from the ship to St Marks square and began our adventure. We toured the Doges Palace and it was something else. It was smart to do it first thing as I am sure it has gotten more crowded as the day has gone on and especially with it so wet. We got our Senior discount which saved us some euros, which was nice. Then we rode the Vaporetta down the Grand canal to the Rialto bridge and got off and meandered throught the shops and the rain began to get serious. We enjoyed looking at all the little shops and grabbed a pizza that was pretty poor but will keep us going until we are back on the ship. We are in an internet cafe not far from St Marks and we are going to go to the cathedral when we finish here. Tomorrow we are going to Murano and Burano to see the glass and the lace they are famous for. The following day we are at sea so it may be several days til we post again. We are having a grand time and this is a fabulous itinerary.
